Sucre

From Potosi we got a taxi to Sucre, only 2hours away. Sucre was a really nice city with a gorgeous main plaza and a very active market. We spent the next day shopping, wandering around the market and sitting in the plaza. There was also a big parade with the army and local schools marching around, we think it was linked to the university which seemed to be quite a big part of the city.
Here is some shots from Sucre:

Much to our dismay the only bus out of Sucre to Santa Cruz was an overnighter. We ended up on a really rubbish bus with a load of really smelly old people which was most annoying. More annoying was when we stopped at 3am because a truck had broken down/got stuck on the road ahead. About 5am we attempted to pass the truck and got stuck in the ditch. Now we were stuck on a mountain, in the rain and our bus was well and truely lodged at about a 20deg angle:
Women were deemed unnecessary in the ´push/pull the bus out` job much to our relief because the men looked like they had actually laid down and rolled around in the mud afterwards. Instead we had to get on the bus and weigh it down by all standing on one side. The whole scenario sounds pretty ridiculous but we didn´t really see the funny side after the previous bus journeys we had witnesses and the fact that it was so early in the morning.

The holdup:
We finally got going again about 9am and made it to Santa Cruz tired, muddy, hungry and rather cross. We decided to stay a night and get the train the next day even though the more direct one left immediately. Santa Cruz wasn´t nearly as nice as Sucre. It was hot because we had come down to 400m altitude compared to 4070m in Potosi but it was busy and expensive for Bolivia. We didn´t stay long, the next day we were on the train by midday and heading to Brazil. This is Bone eating our packed dinner!
