NZ - The Bottom

From Queenstown we drove to Dunedin. We were knackered. We checked into the YHA there and managed a walk to the supermarket before crashing out in front of the T.V. for the rest of the day/evening. The next morning was a wipe out as well, we didn't get up until past midday, much to the annoyance of the cleaners who had to hoover around us. When we did eventually managed to leave the hostel we did a walking tour around Dunedin. It's a cool city, very studenty but also with some nice architecture and almost a hint of culture - unusual for NZ!
The train station:
University building: After the tour we had a cooking session and made dinner for the next 4 nights including a big white sauce and spicy butternut squash soup! We then went to track down Hayden and Alex who had arrived in Dunedin on the Bottom Bus. We found them and ended up going out to a little student bar and dancing around for the evening.
Alexa, Alex, me, Hayden and Anthony (from their bus):
We left Dunedin the next morning via a quick look at the World's Steepest Street:
and then we drove to the Catlins which is the bottom of the South Island. Here is some pictures from the places we stopped:
Alexa got very excited about the sealions...
We stopped off at Curio Bay to stay the night in Dolphin Backpackers. There was no t.v. and no one else apart from the unfriendly and frankly very strange couple that where running it so we played Gin Rummy, ate soup and read magazines!
We were losing patience with the Catlins, it was cold, windy and rainy and we hadn't seen anything that spectacular. We decided to drive back to Queenstown so wizzed past the rest of the southern scenic route:
We did stop and walk the 20mins to the most southerly point on the South Islands, Slope Point, much to Alexa's dismay. It was very, very windy:

We arrived in QT around 3pm and found a really nice hostel to stay in and relaxed for the rest of the day.
