NZ - Napier

From Taupo we drove over to Napier which is in Hawkes Bay on the east coast. There had been a big situation in the news about a man shooting a policeman in Napier and people being trapped in their homes in fear of being shot themselves. The whole thing was over by the time we arrived and the funeral for the policeman happened to be starting just as we headed into town. We ended up standing outside the theatre and listening to the funeral which was so moving. It was an amazing funeral with hundreds of police present and the policemans rugby team performing the huka. It was really sad. Afterwards, we had a wander around town which is all in art deco style because an earthquake once flattened the city and it was rebuilt all in art deco.

Lunch on the beach:
Some of the art deco style building:

The next day we went to play golf in the morning, did 9 holes:
After lunch we walked up a peak, Te Mata, and got some great views along the coast line and over the surrounding area.

and then went to a sheepskin shop for no particular reason:
The next morning we drove down to Wellington which was a long and boring drive which I didn't particularly enjoy.
