NZ - Wanaka

On Thursday we drove up to Mt. Aspiring National Park which is about an hours drive along a non secure road, through fords and in the middle of no where. We hiked the Rob Roy Valley trek which was about 3.5hrs in total and took us into the NP to a viewing point for the Rob Roy glacier. It was a good day weather wise and the walk was beautiful. The drive around lake Wanaka to get to the NP took us round some more beautiful sections than you get from Wanaka itsself:

although by the time we arrived back in Wanaka the clouds had cleared to reveal the snow capped mountains framing the lake:

On Friday we were really slow and faffed around the hostel most of the morning. In the afternoon we went to Puzzle World which was pretty good fun. We raced each other around the maze, slightly stressful, and then spent ages being defeated by puzzles in the cafe. Here's some pictures from the illusions room:

We got chatting to a few English guys from the hostel that evening and went out for drinks with them and most of the rest of the hostel which was cool. Everyone is hanging around here waiting for the ski season to start and trying to find jobs. I'm quite jealous!
