NZ - Abel Tasman NP

On Monday morning, very early, we had to elave Wellington which was sad. We were very much enjoying staying at Sue's. We got the ferry across to Picton on the South Island. I had been told it was a beautiful journey but unfortunately gale force winds kept us inside for the majority, I actually nearly got blown over. Once in the Sounds it was a bit calmer although the rain and cold weren't much fun. I got a few photos:
Coming into Picton:
From Picton we took the scenic coastal road to Nelson. It was raining so the scenary was limited but I can see how it would have been beautiful!

We stopped off in Nelson for lunch and a walk around. I don't really get it, everyone says that Nelson is a lovely little town but I think coming from South America my idea of an interesting town far exceeds anything New Zealand has to offer. I think I will just stick to enjoying the walks and scenary here. There was nothing to do?see there so we moved onwards.
Nelson:

We drove to Marahau which is the gateway village to Abel Tasman National Park. We found a backpackers which we had all to ourselves. It was great but very, very cold. We wrapped up in fleeces and watched t.v. all evening!
The next morning we got the watertaxi to Barks Bay in the NP. From there we hiked back to Marahau which is about 20km and took 6.5hours. It was a really beautiful coastal path through jungle type vegetation. It was a good day especially as the rain held off - just! In the evening we crashed in Marahau again and had another thrilling night in front of the t.v!
